The residency is an initiative of The Dreamers, an independent contemporary art institution in Presidio, Texas.
It was founded on the conviction that time is the condition of any meaningful encounter with art. From its inception, it was conceived as a single ecosystem: a place where work is seen, and a place where it would be created. Where the gallery gives its visitors time with the work, the residency extends that time to the artists and writers who create it.
The residency provides space to work and an environment dedicated to research, artistic practice and sustained dialogue. Rather than following a fixed calendar or annual cycle, each residency is developed individually in response to the resident’s practice.
Alongside time, the program rests on trust and conversation. Residencies are approached as the beginning of lasting relationships between artist and institution rather than as isolated events. They may lead to exhibitions, publications or other collaborative projects, which evolve naturally from the work undertaken and are never predetermined.
